Peebles - 12th/13th June 2010
The club’s annual rally was held this year at Hay Lodge Park, Peebles on the weekend 12th/13th June.
By noon on the Saturday there was quite a collection of Minors and 2 Oxfords assembled in the park. After a welcome cuppa 19 vehicles set off on the scenic run, kindly organised by member Ian Farmer. The run through lovely Borders scenery took us to Selkirk where we parked at Baxter’s outlet. Some went for tea whilst others simply chatted about their cars. In due course the run resumed, taking us back to Peebles by a different, but equally scenic, route.
In the evening 40 members and partners sat down to dinner at the Green Tree Hotel. This was a pleasant social occasion made even better by an excellent menu of quality food which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Sunday dawned grey and overcast. The rally field was damp from a penetrating drizzle. However, things improved as the day went on. The weather had not deterred members (and non members) from attending and we fielded a total of 56 vehicles by 2 pm. The standard of preparation of vehicles was high – they were a credit to their owners.
Amongst “Custom and Modified” we had one real renegade. There was a Minor van sporting a diesel engine! What would Alex Issigonis have said?
Judging took place as usual with results as follows:
1) Pre ’62 saloons, Brian Duncan from Glenrothes
2) Post ’62 saloons, John Thompson from Livingston
3) Travellers, Jim Simpson from Airdrie
4) Convertibles, Derek Dickson from Currie
5) Commercials, Gary Manson from Ardrossan
6) Custom/Modified, Graeme Small from Newbigging
7) Visitors, Brian Campbell for Blairgowrie
Graeme Small also received the heritage cup for the best vehicle in classes 2 to 7. The distance award went to Rick Beardmore who travelled from Leeds in his Morris Oxford.
